Can You Contain The Enthusiasm?
So its mid-term time here at The Boston Architectural College.
Book Report #1 – Success by Design
Every once and a while I am able to pull myself off my the computer or away from my studio desk just long enough to indulge myself. This time I had the pleasure of reading a book. *Gasp* who reads anymore? I know I know in a world of the interweb and Kindles, who would want to read, like an actual book.
Visual Perception of the Cube
So its done! It only took 4 weeks, countless iterations, too many models to count, probably close to $200 worth of supplies, 3 sleepless nights, and enough RockStar that I should own stock in the company, but its finally done. What could have required so much money, time, and effort you might ask. Well my friend that is an easy question to answer. And that answer is….
Planes, Points, and Lines, Oh My!
So I know its been a few weeks since my last post. Its not that I forgot about it, on the contrary. I started my Masters program at The Boston Architectural College two weeks ago and man have things been busy. Well things have calmed down, for today, so back to blogging.
Would You Buy a Snuggie for Your Building?
So the other day we had a lunch and learn. For those of you that are not familiar with them they are pretty much useless, but shhhh dont tell your reps that. They are good for one thing, free food. Yup thats right an hour of my time and everyone elses time wasted for what? A sandwich? Yup exactly, but more than that its a nice little break from the daily grind. Anyway I digress.
Market Yourself Before Your Wreck Yourself, Part 2
So last week I began talking about how to market yourself in todays world. I also began to talk about how important it is. Yet before I continue I cant not in good conscience leave out the other side of the coin. So lets go take a walk on the dark side.
Market Yourself Before Your Wreck Yourself, Part 1
When you go to find something new today, where do you go first? The newspaper? The phone book? Your friend? The local neighbor? Probably not. If your like most people now a days your first, and usually only, stop for information is the internet. With that in mind are you correctly marketing yourself?
Apples, Oranges, and UGLI Fruit!?
First off an UGLI fruit, for those of you that dont know, is:
“UGLI is the trade mark of Cabel Hall Citrus Limited and under which they sell their Jamaican tangelo, a citrus fruit created by hybridizing a grapefruit (or pomelo), an orange and a tangerine[1]“ - Wikipedia
But that really has nothing to do with this post. I just think they are cool and have a great name.
What I did want to talk about however was the profession of architecture in comparison to that of a Lawyer or Doctor. Now I know that none of the three are the same, hence the title of the post, but I thought it would be interesting to see some cold hard facts. In my eyes however the three professions are very similar. all three go to school for an absurd amount of time, followed usually by an even longer “internship”, only then are you able to give yourself the title of your desired profession.
Is it Time to get Real?
During my close to 2 year hiatus from the architecture world I decided to not just sit on my rear-end (although I did do my fair share of it), nope instead I decided to participate in this “unique” real-estate market (feel free to leave your definitions of “unique” below). I had acquired my RE license while in college and it was just sitting there collecting dust (it still just sits there but at least now its behind glass).
